"Drill, baby, drill"

From Mike Littwin's article today in the Rocky Mountain News, where he's quoting Sarah Palin:

"What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he's done turning back the waters and healing the planet? The answer, the answer is to make government bigger and take more of your money and give you more orders from Washington and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world."

The crowd boos. The crowd chants "Zero, zero," which has been the chant of the night, supposedly marking the sum of Obama's achievements. That's when they weren't chanting "Drill, baby, drill." I swear they were.

Littwin is at the RNC and he's generally a pretty reliable source, but I didn't catch the "Drill, baby, drill" chant. Did anyone else? Is Littwin using editorial license here, or did the RNC conventioneers actually chant that?

yeah, they really were chanting "drill baby, drill." I was watching the coverage on PBS, and Gwen Ifill (sp?) remarked, at the end of the night, how often she heard the crowd chanting it. God Bless America;-), and God help us.

Hi James,

Thanks for confirming that. I did run across a few news links later that also confirmed it, and I guess the phrase came from a speech by Michael Steele earlier in the day, where he advocated drilling as a means to deal with the current oil dependency. Apparently, his speech was quite good, but not many people knew about it because it wasn't broadcast on the major networks.
