thinking back to the rhythm
of these years
it seems the pages
no longer captures poems
that must be pressed against
the world to insist
on my right to be making
but, rather,
quieter now, inward
the poem is a gesture
of civility
myself with myself
and born upon
the archway
which supports my
capacity to acknowledge
the importance of love
i find the ikons
of those saints
i continue to treasure
wrapped in oak
burled and naked
against the sun's aging
is the image of you
like the oak
abiding, stubbornly honest
a heart treasure
as the tibetans call
the best friends
there is nothing new
i need
there is much
i still find important
and i am
learning to let go
of the rest.
