     IN  ANCIENT CHARGE

Charged up by the daily fury.

No dice if there is not another

spirit or play or bodily form

outpacing desire. Notions of wealth

come and go, artillery and engines

bought & sold for war or traffic

on the byways and cobblestone streets.

No way back to re-do each shot

at what she was: Sturdy and excited

to be in arms that held sway

in the overcrowded storms of feeling.

What juice we had in those days!

What fecundity, what workmanlike

innocence dawning now in memory

Ah, yes. To have something still outpacing desire to keep the juices flowing or, at this point, at least dripping. It does seem that at times the "something' is a memory that still outpaces desire. Gee whiz.
