Shooting the Messenger

The righteous right are raving again. This time it is about the New York Times for revealing the government's not so secret program to monitor our financial records, which for the record is no secret, it was proudly presented to the press in 2003 by Treasury Secretary Snow. What is so hypocritical about the right's claim that this information puts our troops at risk, is their steadfast denial of who put our troops at risk in the first place. The New York Times did not use false and manipulated data to start the wrong war with the wrong enemy. The New York Times did not claim we were attacked on 9/11 by Iraq. This came from the President and his administration. Do those who criticize the Times think for one moment the terrorists are so ignorant they don't automatically assume their email, phone calls, and bank records are being intercepted and monitored? It's high time to stop blaming the messenger for the bad news and start putting the blame for this catastrophic war and tragic loss of life squarely where it belongs, with George W. Bush and his rubber stamp Republican congress.
