Stealth Socialism

Matt Taibbi?s essay in the current Rolling Stone, in which he alleges the ?bailout? of Wall Street now underway signals yet another brick in their moving wall/Power Play in American government is, I?m afraid, at great odds with the reality of our current and very fluid economic stress. He appears to have completely forgotten we now have what may be North America?s parallel to Hugo Chavez in President Obama, who is, by all means, while extremely generous and apparently sympathetic to Wall Street?s self-inflicted (greed) wounds as the powerhouse of American Capitalism, obviously (if not publicly) believes there is no one else better suited to fund a socialist-just America than that rather moveable casino. Let them crow (in good times) and buy their luxury villas in France and Italy, he would seem to be saying, even encourage their persistent delusion of being the ?Captains of Industry.? Obama sincerely, and I mean this, hopes for their great successes down the road as the future fund base of his own ?Great Society??but only if he can get Congress to pass on ultimate control of the ?investment banking? establishment to the administration?just as the FDIC controls ?commercial banking,? that Roosevelt gained over ?regular? banking during the Depression. By ?control? I mean, of course, the administration (Presidency) has regulatory power over it. One must bear in mind that power alone is meaningless unless (and, in the unlikely event of another W.) it has control over people at the top, and Obama is a South Side democrat, not one of them inhrently. The case now is that Wall St. is the puppet not the puppet master?Servants of the Proletariat, in the last analysis. [see under ?China?]

I mean, if one wishes to believe, as the poohbahs of the Street undoubtedly do, there is a qualitative cultural difference to life in being able to purchase ducats to a premier of Andrew Lloyd Weber, let them go to it. The true cultural flag of our nation may yet be carried by the people. [see under ?Shakespeare in ragged London?] I?m humanist enough to wish them all the best in their foray through Florence. [see under ?Hugo Chavez? housing plan for Caracas?]
I hope I am making myself quite ?transparent.? There is, as they say, more than one way to skin a cat?with apologies to PETA.
Actually, I see Obama making great lemonade out of Wall Street?s terrible lemons. (For what can actually flourish and grow there?) And let them run on at the mouth all they want to on FOX. (There?ll be a change of tune out of Israel before it?s all said and done, as well.) (It may even come from the current ?yahoo? in power, but that?s another story for another page.)
Look what it took to give us Social Security! One might even say ?an act of God.? We just might end up with Universal Health Care this time around. Which Wall St. will help fund through its abundance of taxes. And please don?t try and tell me this will all deter the essential craven- hearted investors as I look at the five-hundred point rise in the DOW on the strength of the Treasury?s announced trillion dollar ?bailout? of the ?toxic,? to put it mildly, ?derivatives? from ?the Street.? Any of them carrying a protest placard discarded it on the way to their broker?s.
Who controls what? And please overlook, as even his sensible first wife was unable to, Sarkozy. If you don?t get the joke by now, let me just point to him as the skaghead of the rich French Capitalists who sought control of France?s powerful Unions, much to his (and their) dismay and frustration. A Capitalist Tool who failed is now attempting to give our failed Capitalists the ?word.? I?m afraid he?s a day late and short a dollar not only in France?whose Unionists are far too cagey to bite on his bullet?but here as well. I wonder if the Obama team didn?t get a laugh out of that one.
